A Guide To GPS Navigation Systems
GPS, short for Global Positioning System, is a technology by which GPS receivers can be constantly tracked via numerous satellites in orbit around the earth. This intelligent equipment has found its most common usage in Satellite Navigation systems, or Sat Nav. How It Works
GPS works by using at least 3 satellites at any one time to locate the receiver. By finding where the distances of the receiver from numerous satellites intersect, an accurate location can be pinpointed. The Types of Sat Nav
There are three major types of GPS system, all of which are particularly useful in different ways and more suitable for different purposes and users.

In Car: Sat Nav systems are essentially in-built features in certain cars. They tend to be integrated into the car`s entertainment system and are thus usually larger and less compact than other types of GPS system. Few of these are touch screen models often making them less user-friendly. The information on them is also less likely to be regularly updated than on other types.

Portable: GPS systems are currently the most commonly bought and used model. Their portability allows them to be used in any number of different cars and they are easy to install and remove. There are numerous factors to consider when choosing a vehicle tracking system. Firstly, the type of Sat Nav that would best suit one`s use should be decided. Another factor is the system`s range and detail; some GPS trackers cover all European roads, whereas others are solely for the UK.
