How to Build a Subwoofer Box/Enclosure
Building your own sub enclosure is really important to maximize sound performance and quality. To get started, it’s recommended to have a good knowledge of the power tools needed to build your enclosure.
Tools Needed:
1) Table saw 2) Board saw 3) Router 4) Power drill 5) Screws
Make sure you have the appropriate safety items such as push sticks when making small cuts.
Steps to Build Sub Enclosures:
1 – Calculate the volume of your box:
Get more information on subwoofer box calculator here. Calculating the volume is considered to be a vital part of building the right ecnlsoure.
2 – Layout your cuts:
You can do that by using a pencil and tape measure to draw lines on the fiberboard or MDF.
3 - Cut out the patterns you have drawn on step 2.
4 - Trace your patterns
Using a pencil, trace onto the location of the board where you want to place your subs.
5 - Make the final panel cuts on the table saw:
Using the table saw cut the holes for the subwoofers. Be careful when working with the table saw because it can be dangerous.
6 - Smooth the edges of the hole and the outer router srea using sandpaper.
7- Assemble the panels:
When assembling your panels, start by attaching the top and bottom to the sides of the box at the beginning. By doing so, you will be able to perfectly adjust the edges to match your enclosure. Use screws (or brad nailer) and glue to seal the box and prevent any air leakage.
8 - Carpet the Box:
Wrap the carpet tightly onto the enclosure.
9 - Wiring the box/enclosure:
Drill a hole for the speaker wires. Make sure that the hole is large enough for the wires and deal the hole using strip-calk.
10- Mount the subs:
Make sure that the subs are wired properly to match the impedance rating on your amplifier.
Your subwoofer box is now ready to be installed in to your vehicle.
